School bells will soon ring and everyone,  from Pre-K to college age students,  will be heading back to class.  The same will hold true for Seminarian Joel Wilson.  The last week of August will find Wilson, a third year theologian, returning to his studies at Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary in Philadelphia.

After speaking with Wilson recently,  at the conclusion of an altar servers workshop at Saint Joseph Church, one came away with the impression of a happy and dedicated young man, intent on his path to priesthood.  He hopes to be ordained a deacon in June, 2008, followed by ordination to the priesthood in the diocese of Trenton  in May, 2009.

Wilson, age 29, is the oldest of four children.  His parents, David and Colleen Wilson, have been parishioners of Saint Joseph Church since 2003.   “We are very proud of his calling and very happy it is proceeding so well.  He has two years to go and we pray that it continues along smoothly and he follows the will of the Lord,” his father said in a telephone interview.

While concentrating on his studies, Wilson also finds time to enjoy the great outdoors, with cycling and hiking among his passions.  He is also a racquet ball enthusiast, a weight lifter and an amateur photographer.  Asked how he can fit this all in, he said he “budgets his time” so he can participate in all these activities while continuing his scholarly pursuits.

Saint Joseph’s  parishioners have come to recognize Wilson, seeing him assist at services, especially during Christmas and Holy Week.  “I am delighted to be a part of Saint Joseph Church.  It’s a warm, welcoming, vibrant parish and  great place to call home,” Wilson said.   Speaking of Rev. Sigmund Peplowski, the pastor of Saint Joseph Church,  Wilson said “Fr. Sig is top-notch and he has been very supportive”.

Fr. Peplowski had equally kind words to say about Wilson.  “Joel is like a son to me.  I’m very proud of him and I know he is going to be a great priest.  His ordination to the priesthood will be a wonderful celebration for Saint Joseph Church,” he said.

Wilson is very much looking forward to celebrating his first Mass at Saint Joseph Church, sharing his happiness with the people of this parish that he calls “home”.
