Safe Environment Policy

The Diocese of Paterson requires that all volunteers in ministry with children fully comply with the Safe Environment Policy. This policy was created to ensure that staff and volunteers who have regular contact with minors are committed to providing a safe environment for children and youth. The policy includes the following:

1. a Criminal Background Check
2. a signed statement of compliance with the Pastoral Code of Conduct
3. VIRTUS Training 














































































         

Volunteers  

Thank you for your interest in volunteering to work with the children of the parish. Whether you are working with the scouts, youth ministry, adolescent faith formation or Generations of Faith it is important work and very much appreciated by the diocese and pastor. 

Each volunteer must be in full compliance with the diocesan directives. This can be achieved by undergoing a criminal background check, reading and signing the ‘Code of Conduct’ and attending a session of Protecting God’s Children. 

Please read the information below. It contains the instructions on how to achieve full compliance.
Criminal Background check - Go to the Sagem Morpho website www.bioapplicant.com it will give you step by step instructions on filling out the criminal background application. Also on this website you can view the various locations where you can have your fingerprints taken. Please choose the site that is most convenient. You will need the following data when filling out the form.
Information from the top portion of the universal fingerprint form as follows:
Box (1) Originating Agency Number- NJ920610Z
Box (2) Category - YSB,
Box (3) Statute Number - 15A:3A-1
Box (4) Reason for Fingerprinting - Youth Serving Organization Volunteer
Box (5) Document Type - VB1
Box (7) Contributor’s (6 character VRN#) - PAT 123
PLEASE NOTE: In addition to filing online, you must bring a copy of the completed Univeral Fingerprint Form with you to the fingerprint site. Please contact us and we will email a copy to you. You must present proper ID when you arrive for your appointment. If you do not, you WILL BE TURNED AWAY!
Continue following the instructions on the website. You will be reimbursed for the cost of fingerprinting when the receipt you receive is returned to the parish office.
Code of Conduct - Go to the website www.rcdp.info . On the right hand side look for ‘Code of Conduct - English’. Please read through. When you get to page 9, print this page out. This is the page we need you to fill out and return to the parish office in the sealed envelope marked ‘Attn: Volunteer Code of Conduct’.
Protecting God’s Children -

a. Protecting God’s Children is a required session you must take within 90 days.
b. It is approximately 3 hours long and free of charge.
c. It is offered at various locations around the Diocese.
d. They can see a list of trainings on the patersondiocese.org website www.patersondiocese.org . On the home page of the Diocesan website, right hand side scroll down a little and you will see

There are several ways to register:
a. Registering by calling Diocesan Center at 973-955-1000 X 261 and leave message: name, phone number, and what session person plans to attend.
b. Send an email to register@patersondiocese.org with name and what session person plans to attend.
c. Register online at Virtus.org.
